Cannabis and UK law
Cannabis is an illegal drug in the UK. In fact, in January 2009, cannabis was upgraded from a Class C drug to Class B, meaning that penalties for possession and trafficking are now more severe. The main reason for this change is the growing prevalence of highly potent, mind-distorting "skunk" cannabis.
The maximum penalty for supply, dealing, production and trafficking cannabis in any form is 14 years; for possession, 5 years. Young persons caught in possession may receive a reprimand, warning or be charged; adults may be warned, fined or arrested.
